Dernière: Inconnu

Metteur en scène:
Stuart Hopps •
Chorégraphe:

Avec:

Leonie Hofmeyer, Sarah McNair, Michele Maxwell

Commentaire:

Three singers, collectively presenting themselves as the Skirted Issue, sing the past and present repertoire of a number of girl trios, including The Sisters Andrews, McGuires, Beverleys, Supremes, Pointer, and the Three Degrees and the Shangri-Las. The show makes satirical tun of the styles and songs, the illusion of real-life harmony among the girls, the fraudulence of stage allure - and in some unspecified way which doesn’t quite come off - makes a statement connected with Feminism. It did not receive good notices and was
quickly withdrawn.  (plus)

Commentaire:

Originally produced at the Oldham Coliseum, this was considerably re-written for the West End, and was a virtually sung-through piece, with very little linking dialogue. The music was praised, but the lyrics and book came in for a lot of criticism. All in all, it was considered an honourable failure.  (plus)

Commentaire:

For the past eight years the Theatre Royal Hanley/Kenneth More Theatre production of “Rocky Horror Show” had been touring the UK non-stop with
enormous success, breaking box office records everywhere and creating its own nation-wide cult following. On several occasions the tour had been invited to stage a West End season, but Richard O’Brien regularly refused permission, and decided to stage a revival under his own management.
Under standard rules at the time, a West End revival meant a 50 mile radius of London embargo on any provincial productions, thus forcing the touring production to end. Adam Caine (as Rocky) was the only member of the original tour invited to appear in the West End revival. This revival ran for just under a year.  (plus)

Commentaire:

Using all the music from the opera “Carmen”, Oscar Hammerstein II provided completely new lyrics and a new setting. All the characters are Negro workers in a southern parachute factory during World War II. It is the story of Joe, an army corporal, and his love for the temptress, Carmen Jones, which ends with him stabbing her to death after she leaves him for the boxer, Husky Miller. The show was first produced on Broadway in December 1943 where it ran for 502 performances. This was its British premiere and it received something of a mixed reaction from the critics - mainly feeling the production and staging were a bit unadventurous, although the music and lyrics were much appreciated. However, it ran for one year and nine months and won several awards. During the course of its run the part of Joe was taken over by Gary Wilmot.  (plus)
