Commentaire:

Following the original London production at the Bridewell, Sondheim permitted an off-Broadway staging which ran for 45 performances in Feb/March 2000. For the Broadway version Sondheim incorporated two new song/scenes, "Delighted, I'm Sure" and "Montana Chem", did some revisions to the original book, and some new musical arrangements by Jonathan Tunick. This London revival was the UK premiere of the revised off-Broadway score. After a month at the Jermyn Street Theatre it transferred to the Arts Theatre for a further three weeks.

Commentaire:

The music was provided by members of the cast working as actor-musicians. The production was part of the celebrations to mark Stephen Sondheim’s 80 th birthday which fell during the run of this show, and was felt to be a worthwhile look at one of his earliest and least successful works.  (plus)
