Commentaire

This Spanish language production had run for more than a thousand performances in Spain and been seen by more than a million people. The starring role of Peter was played by Miguel Antelo, Spain’s most successful pop star. However, with the audience being asked to sing-along (in Spanish!) “Hay que creer in hadas” (“You have to believe in fairies”), and flying scenes conducted almost entirely in the dark, this London production was universally derided by the critics. The reaction to the show with its “dodgy surtitles” was summed up by Charles Spencer in the Daily Telegraph: “To die, Peter Pan famously declared, will be an awfully big adventure. I wouldn’t go that far myself, but it seems infinitely preferable to sitting through this dismal Spanish production. . . one of the most lamentable evenings I have ever endured in a West End Theatre.
